Workshop on Strengthening Management Representative’s Skills: Compliance to Excellence
15 - 17 April, New Delhi
CII Institute of Quality organized this workshop at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
The Management Representative (MR) is expected to play a key role in the development and maintenance of the Quality Management System of an Organization. ISO 9001 Standard places multi dimensional responsibilities on the MANAGEMENT REPRESENTATIVE (MR) which includes establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality system, infusing customer orientation in the organization and keeping the system dynamic through continuous tracking of achievement levels.
The workshop aimed at providing valuable inputs to Management Representatives for leveraging the existing management systems to building on a modern excellence driven model through strategic planning, closing the quality gaps, integration of systems, and new approaches for managing quality. A critical aspect covered was the strengthening of the working relationship of the MR with the Top Management and his peers which is vital to facilitate synergy in the quality drive.
The programme covered process mapping, strategic quality planning, objectives setting, management of internal audits and management reviews through interactive sessions and hands on workshops. A special session covered the recent developments relating to the revisions of ISO 9001: 2008 and also ISO 9004 expected to be published in 2009 that will serve as an advance alert for the participants.
There were 18 participants from 16 companies. The course was conducted by the Mr. Anupam Kaul, Senior Counsellor and Mr C V Rao, Counsellor, CII-IQ.
Training Programme on Achieving Warehouse Competitiveness
16-17 April, Bangalore
18 first line and middle level managers from Supply Chain & Logistics function, Industrial Engineers and Material Managers from 13 companies attended this programme which was conducted by CII-IQ and the CII Institute of Logistics. Mr. Chandramouli - Senior Consultant and Mr. Gurunathan, Counselor- CII Institute of Logistics were the faculty.
The aim of this Generic training programme was to provide individuals with a deeper understanding of the breadth of problems likely to be encountered by modern warehouses and to offer practical approaches to their solution. The module was designed to give participants an understanding of the key functions of Warehouse, appreciation of the key characteristics of Warehouse Management Systems, Warehouse activity profiling & zoning that can help in design of Warehouses, appreciation of the main cost and control parameters in Warehouse operations and Global Logistics.
Workshop on New Product Development – A Strategic Approach
28-29 April, Bangalore
17 delegates from senior and middle level managements from different disciplines of Manufacturing, R&D, Design & Marketing from 18 companies attended this workshop which was conducted by Mr. Sanjib K Dutta, Principal Counsellor, CII-IQ.
Objective of the workshop was:
- Identifying the improvements aimed at enhancing products and services in line with the needs and expectations of the customers
- Developing a product quality plan supporting the development of a product or service
- Designing and developing new products and services in line with the needs and expectations of the customers
- Using creativity and innovation to design and develop competitive products and services.
Certification programme on Competency Mapping & Assessment
16–18 April, Bangalore
- CII-IQ organized this 3 – days programme whose objective was:
- Understand the fundamentals of competency management
- Experience the process of competency mapping and profiling
- Learn the art of customization and institutionalization
- Aware of the implementation pre-requisites and strategies
- Understand integration of competency profiling to other HR applications
- Become a Subject Matter Expert and Internal Champion for Competency initiatives
20 Participants from 13 companies & 2 Academic Institutions attended the programme which was facilitated by Mr. Deendayalan and Mr. Karthik from Centre for Excellence in Organization (CEO).
3 – Days Certificate Programme on Central Excise & Service Tax
27 – 29 April, Bangalore
The objective of this programme was to thoroughly acquaint the participants with the concepts, legal provisions, departmental instructions and case laws to enable them ensure compliance with the Central Excise and Service Tax laws and evolve strategies with better knowledge of various business options.
14 delegates from 10 different companies attended the programme. Mr T N C Rajagopalan was the resource person for the programme.
Producing Zero Defect
27-28 April, Bangalore
Mr. Vivek Ghodke, who has been associated with CII–IQ since the last 5 years and has conducted more than 25 training programs on statistical analysis of measurement and manufacturing processes to achieve zero defects, conducted this programme which was attended by 30 delegates from 19 companies.
The Objective of the workshop included :
For the manufacturing industries, AIAG has formulated SPC techniques, which can be used for evaluating capabilities of the manufacturing processes. The process capability indices like Cp, Cpk, Pp; Ppk helps in defining capabilities of these processes to meet the design specifications. These capability indices have become benchmarks in continual improvement of processes. Control charts are another effective tools in SPC used especially for monitoring performance of on-going process. Control charts also helps the operator to take preventive measures well in advance and much before a process may likely produce actual rejection.
Thus producing zero defects can be achieved in practice, as the organizational aim was the take-away for the participants.
CII Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate Course
April to September 2009, Bangalore
The 12th Batch of the CII Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Course (Level I) was launched by the CII Institute of Quality on 27-29 April 2009 (first module) at Bangalore. This programme will be held in five modules spread over six months for a total of 15 training days.
The first module was attended by 19 participants from 12 organisations. The participants are mostly from the manufacturing industry namely Bosch; Carborandum Universal, Dynamatic Technologies Ltd; Excel Plast, Hospet Steels, Sahney Commutators, Steer Engineering, Titan Industries, Triton Valves, Volvo India, Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies and TVS Finance & Services.
Mr. R. Ram Narayan, a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, was the Faculty of this programme.
Certificate Course on Internal Auditor Training on ISO 22000:2005
(Food Safety Management Systems requirements of any organizations in the Food chain)
8 – 9 April, Bangalore
CII Institute of Quality organised this two day Certificate course aimed at providing food safety professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct an Internal Audit of the newly introduced ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety management systems-Requirements of any organizations in the Food chain)
This interactive two-day Workshop was based on ISO 19011(the principles of quality system auditing) and deals with the audit of ISO 22000 requirements on Food Safety Management System covering HACCP, GHP & GMP. The delegates gained an understanding of the clauses and provided with the auditing skills and techniques including audit planning, executing & reporting audit findings through syndicate exercises and lecture sessions.
The focus of this course was how to evaluate the effectiveness of a Food Safety Management System based on ISO 22000.
There were 12 participants from 7 organisations. The programme was conducted by Dr Indrani Ghose, Principal Counsellor, CII-IQ.
Certificate Course on Psychometrics for HR and OD
13 - 14 April, Bangalore
The CII Institute of Quality organized this Certificate Course to understand the psychological make up of human beings which has been of great interest for a long time. This understanding in the context of organizational employees is important not because it is 'good to know'; it is actually crucial for taking a variety of employee-related decisions. In fact, there exists a strong belief that it is better to have an employee who was lesser skilled yet more positively oriented than one who is an expert with poor attitude.
How does one understand the psychological characteristics of employees? Psychometrics - the field of study that is concerned with the measurement of psychological variables - helps us to understand psychological characteristics in a scientific manner.
The course was conducted by Prof. C Balaji, Senior Director, Symphony University.
The key topics covered were:
- What Psychometrics is about and how it is useful
- Key concepts in psychometrics and their importance
- Instruments in psychological measurement
The participants also learned about the Assessment & Development Centers to measuring organization level variables like organizational climate.
16 participants attended this course from 13 different companies.
Workshop on Assessment for Business Excellence 2009
21-24 April, Bangalore
Mr C V Subrahmanyam, Principal Counsellor, CII-IQ was the faculty for this workshop which was attended by 13 delegates from 6 organisations. Participant learnings included:

Workshop on Enhancing Productivity and Quality Thru 3M & 5S
28 – 29 April, Gurgaon
CII Institute of Quality organized this Interactive Workshop which focused on the need to have a productive workplace free of waste which is clean & tidy and a pleasure to work in. Organizations everywhere are still using these fundamental techniques with advanced tools to effect work place improvements which in turn are improving their bottom lines.
The Workshop helped the participants to understand the relevance of 3M & 5S techniques for their organizations, and how it could contribute towards improving bottom line business performance by focusing on practical issues.
10 participants from 6 organisations participants in the workshop. The programme was conducted by Mr K R Shivakumar, Senior Counsellor, CII Institute of Quality.
Workshop on Calibration of External Auditing Skills
6-7 April, Mumbai
The third workshop on Calibration of External Auditing Skills was held in Mumbai on 6 & 7 April. It was attended by 16 auditors from 10 Certifying bodies.
The Workshop has been conceived and designed to provide a forum for experienced Certification Body auditors to share experiences, to develop advanced level of understanding and to evolve common approaches on several critical aspects that have a bearing on the quality of certification. A key focus was on adjusting the level of auditing to the maturity level of the client organization and to adopt a risk based approach for planning the audit. The workshop was sponsored by the Quality Council of India. This workshop covered the revised provisions of ISO 9001:2008 and the implications for auditors. The Workshop was conducted by Mr Anupam Kaul, Senior Counsellor, CII Institute of Quality.
