CII-IQ Mission to China



Today's global business environment requires organisations to review and upgrade technologies on a regular basis, be receptive to new ideas and adopt new methods of upgrading their knowledge base.

In keeping with the Confederation's initiative to share best practices, the CII Institute of Quality facilitated an International Study Mission to China on Managing Growth with Quality: Learning from the Chinese Experience from 2nd to 6th April 2007.

The main objectives of the delegation was to provide opportunities to see and learn how the organizations have benefited by Using the competitive edge in their Supply Chain Management, New Product Development, Skills Development and best practices in areas such as Leadership, Knowledge Management, Change Management, People Involvement, Empowerment Practices, Daily Management and new and emerging technologies to sustain their competitiveness.

The five-day Mission visited various industries viz. Konecranes (Shanghai) Company Ltd,; Sachs Automotive Components & Systems Shanghai Co., Ltd, ; Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd.; Shanghai Zhong-Ou International Group (ZOECO); Shanghai Zhuo Kai Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (Eucon Group); Shanghai Yalong Industry Group Co., Ltd.; Tokai Rubber (Jiaxing) Co Ltd.; Ascendas - Williams Controls (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.; Hitachi Metals (Suzhou) Electronics, Ltd.; ZF Drivetech (Suzhou) Co. Ltd. and the industrial zones such as Jiading Foreign Trade and Economic Commission, Jaiding Industrial Zone; Sahanghai Xin Jinshan Industrial Investment and Development Co. Ltd, Shanghai Jinshan Industrial Zone.; JiaXing Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation, JiaXing Murakami Ishizaki Corporation (MIC); Tongxiang Economic Development Zone; Jinshan Economic Development Zone; Sushou Industrial Park.

The mission gave an opportunity to the members to have first hand exposure and insight on the technological strengths of these companies as also share various innovative and successful practices implemented at the workplaces of these organisations

It also provided a platform to share views on the directions that need to be taken by Indian industry to achieve excellence. The visit to each organisation included interaction with the senior managers, presentations, discussions and visit to their respective plants/facilities.

The delegation was led by Mr. Rajesh Tiwari (CII Mission Leader), Vice President (Operations), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. and represented by Senior Management Personnel involved in Strategic Planning, Quality, Production, Supply Chain Management, Business Development and other operational areas from companies such as Godrej Consumer Product Ltd. (Personal, hair, household and fabric care segments), Tata Motors Ltd (Passenger cars, multi-utility vehicles as well as light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles for goods and passenger transport), Rajratan Global Wire Ltd. (High Carbon Steel Wires) Rashtriya Metal Industries Ltd (RMI) - (Copper alloys strips, blanks / discs and cups) NV Advisory (Iinvestment fund), Maruti Udyog Limited (Motor Vehicles and Spare parts) Tubular Precision P C Ltd, (Sugar, Sanitary ware, Engineering, Abrasives, Fertilizers, Finance, Plantation, Bio-Products) Ashok Leyland Ltd (Commercial Vehicle industry) and Penguin Engineering (Innovative equipment, which ‘civilizes’ yachts and boats).

The visit was very useful and informative to the participants and they were impressed with the excellent environment, teamwork and motivation among the employees and the level of housekeeping and quality standards maintained by the organization.
