Workshop on Accreditation Criteria for Inspection Bodies
Institute of Quality, CII has enlarged its portfolio of training and counseling on management system standards to include a wider range of subjects than normally covered by ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 series of Standards offered by majority of Institutes. The portfolio enhancement includes both supplementary standards that work in tandem with QMS schemes such as Measurement of Customer Satisfaction, Quality Planning etc, as well as Standards that address higher-level conformity assessment standards.
IQ conducted a programme on Enhancement of MR Skills in Bangalore in the last week of May, which covered many of the supplementary standards. Later this year, specific Standards based programmes would be conducted.
On conformity assessment, a one day Workshop on accreditation criteria for Inspection Bodies was conducted on 3 July 2007. This was the first training programme exclusively addressing the Inspection bodies who are looking to apply for accreditation with the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies, Quality Council of India. The Workshop was supported by the QCI and inaugurated by Mr Girdhar Gyani, Secretary General and also addressed by Mr S.Dave, Director, APEDA who have an ongoing programme for export related inspection of grapes.
Mr Anupam Kaul, Senior Counselor, CII and Mr Anil Jauhri, Adviser, QCI conducted the one day workshop highlighting the increasing significance of accreditation programmes worldwide and the important requirements that the accreditation programme would seek to evaluate based on the ISO 17020:1998. The workshop specially highlighted the significance of impartiality and independence of the conformity assessment bodies, which is vital for building a nationally credible system of evaluation and accreditation at par with global standards.
The next programme on Conformity assessment Standard ISO 17021 for System Certification Bodies is scheduled to be held on 4-5 September at New Delhi. This Standard, with stepped up stringency is replacing Guide 62 and Guide 66, which prescribe the criteria for accreditation of certification bodies. This will also be the first programme to be organized in India.
The IQ is also providing counseling services to Inspection and Certification Bodies in attaining these Standards. Mr Anupam Kaul is leading this programme.
