CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development Government efforts in water management bearing fruit : Saif - ud - din SozThe Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif - ud - din Soz, speaking at the opening of the "Indian Danish Water Ways", jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Trade Council of Denmark - India, the Embassy of Denmark in India, and the Water Training and Consulting (WTC) in New Delhi assured that though figures relating to per capita water availability in India may seem alarming - it has come down from 5,100 m3 in 1951 to 1,700 m3 today - such is not the case considering India's size and large population. Climate change knows no geographical boundariesProfessor Tim Flannery, author of The Future Eaters and The Weather Makers, speaking at the Business Leadership for Climate Change, a discussion organized by CII - ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development in association with Australia India Council, said that, given the prevailing levels of air and water pollution, the rightful aspirations of every Indian for a better lifestyle cannot be fulfilled using conventional economic models. |
