Yi Special Delegation to Kashmir

Yi organised an 8 member special delegation to Kashmir from 18-21 October. The delegation visited Gulmarg and Srinagar and were joined by 10 young influential leaders of Kashmir. The delegation met with Mr. Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and Mr. Haseeb A Draby, Chairman & Chief Executive, J&K Bank. This delegation was organised post the participation of Yi in the CII northern region council meeting, held in Srinagar in September 2009. The meeting generated a view where a need was felt for Yi to create a platform in Kashmir for connecting the young Kashmiri businessmen and businessmen from other parts of India, for a meaningful dialogue. Yi also felt that there was a need to engage students of schools and universities of Kashmir to help build a perspective amongst them, as well as share opportunity areas with them.
With this aim the Yi delegation met Mr. Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir to identify key areas of Yi’s engagement in Kashmir. The Chief Minister expressed his happiness at Yi’s initiatives and requested Yi to consider opening a chapter in Srinagar. The Yi agenda for Kashmir would be to concentrate on the focus areas of identifying skill gaps for Kashmiri students and help design programmes & projects to bring the Kashmiri youth on a common platform with the youth of the country. Yi also intends to better integrate the young businessmen & students of Kashmir through adequate knowledge sharing of best practices. Based on this interaction with the Chief Minister some key areas of Yi’s participation were established, the immediate key areas of the Yi engagement in Kashmir will be: To identify skill gaps for Kashmiri students and help design programmes, projects and models to augment these in partnership with the local schools, Host delegations of Kashmiri businessmen to other centres in India where best practices can be shared, Regular visits of pre-identified and appropriate Yi members, academicians etc to Kashmir to keep up the momentum of knowledge sharing with students of Kashmir and to Organise the 7th Yi National Summit in September 2010 in Srinagar.
