On 9th September Yi organised the third edition of the Green – I contest 2009 along with the Indian Green Building Council & Carrier at Hyderabad. An annual contest conducted under the environment initiative of Yi that aims at creating awareness and encourages school students to think about conservation and instill environmental responsibility among future citizens of the country. The topic for this year’s Green-I contest was ‘Evaluating various measures that can be taken to reduce the school’s carbon footprint’ and received entries of over 130 schools from across the country.
The schools sent in their ideas in the form of sketches, drawings, write –ups and 5 entries were short-listed by a jury for a final presentation. The criteria used for evaluating entries were:- content/idea clarity, ability to implement the ideas, innovation and presentation. The top 5 entries were presented to a panel of distinguished judges on 9 September 2009 at Hyderabad International Convention Center, Hyderabad.
Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata was declared as the winner, followed by Vasant Valley School, New Delhi as the first runner up and Sri Aurobindo International School , Hyderabad as the second runner up. The winning schools received their awards on September 10 at the inaugural session of the All-India Green Building Congress 2009 held at Hyderabad International Convention Center. The schools received the awards from Shri K Rosaiah, Chief Minister , Andhra Pradesh , Mr. Zubin Irani, Managing Director, Carrier Aircon Ltd and Dr. Prem C Jain , Chairman of the Indian Green Building Council.
